Shared Clinical Decision Making (SCDM) Survey

Shared Clinical Decision Making (SCDM) is a recommendation option utilized by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) a sub-committee of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). ACIP members vote to recommend which vaccines are appropriate for Americans across the lifespan. Those recommendations are typically approved by the CDC director, and health care providers base the vaccines they administer on these recommendations. Many vaccines have a ‘routine’ recommendation, meaning that all people in that age category should receive those vaccines. SCDM recommendations leave the decision of whether to vaccinate up to a discussion between provider and patient. Often patients don’t know to ask about a given vaccine, or providers don’t have time to have the conversation during a wellness visit. Vaccines with a SCDM recommendation tend to have a lower vaccine uptake than vaccines with a routine recommendation.
This survey is intended to gauge your knowledge of SCDM and how it impacts the patients you serve.
1.Please list your specialty:

5.How many of your patients ask for a vaccine that has a SCDM recommendation?
6.What barriers do you face in having discussions with your patients about vaccines? Pick all that apply:
7.Do you think ACIP should conduct periodic reviews of vaccines with a SCDM recommendation in order to understand the impact the recommendation may be having on vaccine awareness and uptake?
