Consent Form

You are invited to participate in a study designed to understand how emotional content is derived from music.  This topic was selected in order to better understand how contextual information influences the attribution of emotional content to sound.  This study is being conducted by Tyson Platt, Ph.D. 

In order to participate in the experiment, you must be at least 18 years of age.  If you decide to participate, you will be asked to listen to a short piece of atonal music and complete three surveys to assess your personality type and emotional reaction to the music.  This experiment will last approximately twenty minutes.  No identifiable information will be collected during this research.  This study poses no elevation in risk above those encountered in normal daily life.   

All information obtained in connection with this study will remain confidential.  Data will be coded electronically and stored on a password-protected computer accessible only to the primary investigator.  Information collected through your participation may be published in academic journals and/or presented at a professional meetings.  You may withdraw from the experiment at any time without penalty.

Your decision whether or not to participate will not jeopardize your future relations with Alabama State University or Alabama State University's Department of Psychology.
