Vanguard Theater Company, is accepting audition submissions for our MainStage production of THE SPITFIRE GRILL.

Casting non-union and guest-equity artists. 

PERFORMANCE DATES: Thursdays - Sundays: Nov. 3-Nov. 20
AUDITIONS
Initial auditions are by video.  Callbacks will be in person or by zoom (if necessary).
Your UNDER 3 MINUTE Video must include:
1. SLATE: your name, the part for which you are auditioning, and the song you are singing; PLUS
2. INTRODUCTION: a 60 second or less less verbal  introduction that tells us a little bit about who you are and why you resonate with this show; PLUS
3. a 32 bar cut of a song in the style OR from THE SPITFIRE GRILL.
DEADLINE: Audition Videos are DUE BY SEPTEMBER 5 at midnight.  
CALLBACKS: You will receive an email if we are interested in seeing your further. Callbacks will be held in person with the creative team in our theater at 180 Bloomfield Avenue, Montclair, NJ, during the week of SEPTEMBER 21,  If you are unable to attend an in-person callback, we will arrange for a zoom call-back (but in-person is preferred).

COVID: All actors, creative and production team members must be fully vaccinated for COVID.
CASTING POLICY: We are committed to diversity and inclusion in our casting, including the casting of culturally, linguistically, and gender diverse performers, and performers with disability in roles where race, ethnicity, sexual preference, gender or the presence or absence of disability is not relevant.

Percy Talbot has just been released from a five year prison sentence for manslaughter. She is trying to find a place for a fresh start, and, based on a page from an old travel book, travels to the small town of Gilead, Wisconsin. The local sheriff, Joe Sutter, who is also Percy’s parole officer, finds her a job at Hannah’s Spitfire Grill – the only eatery in this struggling town. The Spitfire Grill is for sale. But with no interested buyers, Hannah decides to raffle it off. Entry fees are one hundred dollars and the best essay on why you want the grill wins. Soon, mail is arriving by the wheelbarrow full and things are definitely getting hot at the Spitfire Grill. This musical triumph is an inspiring celebration of fresh starts and the power of what one person can do. *All characters, other than Percy, have a standard Mid-Western accent.
