Following years of campaigning by HSU members, the Fair Work Commission recently awarded aged care workers pay increases of up to 28%, to recognise the undervaluation of your work.

These pay increases will lift the Award pay rates for all classifications across the sector.

For example, a qualified Carer with a Cert III will be paid at least $32.21 per hour, and laundry hands, cleaners and food services assistants will be paid at least $26.66 per hour.

However, the federal government has now called for these historic pay increases to be delayed and implemented over two years:

For indirect care workers – In full from 1 January 2025;
For direct care workers – 50% of the Stage 3 wage increase from 1 January 2025, and the remaining 50% of the Stage 3 wage increase from 1 January 2026.

This delay is unacceptable, and the federal government should hear what it would mean for you. Your answers will also help form the HSU response to the Fair Work Commission. (All personal information will remain confidential to the union.)
