Deep learning and TEL: Do they have a future together?

The opportunity to support better retention of knowledge and understanding for students often leads to deep learning potential.

* 1. Can you describe briefly the kind of experiences you think can foster deep learning opportunities for students?

* 2. The following are examples of how deep learning might be fostered through using TEL. Please indicate in your selection below how applicable you feel the statement is:

Highly applicable to TEL Fairly applicable to TEL Not very applicable to TEL Not at all applicable to TEL Can't really say
Multiple representations and ways of viewing knowledge
Students collaborate and discuss work providing peer feedback opportunities
Timely and appropriate feedback
Students can keep trying because the practice cycle is possible in a timely manner due to reduced costs and risks
Certain TEL reduces risk e.g. provides safety to test out ideas. This can lead to age limits being removed to learning certain skills
TEL applications can reduce cost of operating expensive equipment but still enable students to learn the skills so the opportunity to practice and reduce impact of failure
TEL helps to develop resilience and robustness to failure and trying again because of barrier reduction and timely feedback
TEL facilitates an immersive learning experience

* 3. Please choose one (or more) that you agree with or disagree with in question 2 and provide why you agree or disagree. If you don’t like any of the above add your own example(s) and give your rational.

* 4. Please add any further comments and ideas about what role you feel TEL has in deep learning.
