PharmD Training Program

Welcome to the Cleveland Clinic PharmD IBD Immersion Training Program! This initiative is designed to provide comprehensive IBD education, equipping pharmacists to better serve patients in both clinical practice and specialty pharmacy settings. The program includes an intensive didactic curriculum based on advanced IBD entrustable professional activities (EPAs) relevant to pharmacists, along with hands-on exposure to multidisciplinary IBD and subspecialty clinics at Cleveland Clinic.
Clinical rotations will complement the didactic training by guiding pharmacists in applying disease activity assessments, monitoring strategies, and the treat-to-target approach. The curriculum covers:
  • Outpatient care for IBD patients, including disease classification, therapy selection, advanced therapy prescribing and monitoring, treat-to-target strategies, health maintenance, and managing disease and therapy-related complications
  • Inpatient care of patients with IBD
  • Exposure to IBD endoscopy and surgical interventions
  • Collaborative management of IBD patients involving colorectal surgery, radiology, nutrition, psychosocial care, dermatology, and rheumatology
  • Management of IBD patients with ileal-pouch anal anastomosis (IPAA)
  • Understanding extra-intestinal manifestations
  • Participation in an IBD medical home model
  • Access to core educational reading materials
This program aims to provide a robust foundation for pharmacists to enhance their expertise and optimize patient care in the field of IBD.
