Hello Cooke Scholar Alumni

Do you identify as Black, Indigenous or a Person of Color (BIPOC)? If so, we have a special opportunity for you to join the Foundation’s BIPOC Scholar Alumni/Staff Working Group.

The Working Group began its work in December 2020 with two foci: 1) to inform the Foundation about the Scholar and Alumni experiences with the Cooke Scholarship programs and at Scholars’ schools, colleges and universities and 2) to advise the Foundation on an array of racial equity matters, including selection and advising of scholars, alumni engagement and support, and how to improve the Scholar experience for future cohorts.

The Working Group meets once each month, typically on Monday evenings from 5:00 PM ET to 7:00 PM ET or Sunday afternoons from 1:00 PM ET to 3:00 PM ET. The schedule is staggered because participants are in different time zones; subsequent iterations of the Working Group may prefer to establish a different schedule. We have already learned much from the current Working Group, adopted its suggested changes to our practices and policies, and are assessing additional adjustments as well.

Important Note: Since a stipend is given to participants, Alums must no longer be eligible for the Cooke Graduate Scholarship or have graduated from their Cooke Graduate Scholarship to be eligible to join the BIPOC Scholars Alumni/Staff Working Group. Also, only those who reside in the United States are eligible to participate in this opportunity.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please complete this survey no later than Wednesday, October 12th. Please contact alumni@jkcf.org with any questions.
