About this survey

Being wants to know about your experiences with Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), to inform our position statement on ECT, and to write an article about people’s experiences of ECT. We know that these experiences are incredibly varied, and hope your responses will help us gain an accurate understanding of the circumstances under which people have ECT, and what affect the treatment has on people’s lives.

Who is this survey for?

This survey is for anyone who has had ECT as treatment for a mental illness. This includes people who chose to have ECT, as well as people who were treated with ECT involuntarily. While Being is a NSW-based organisation, this survey is for people who have experienced ECT anywhere in the world.

We also know that some people have had many ECT treatments over their lives, often in a diverse range of circumstances. If you would prefer to fill out several surveys in order to cover your different experiences, please feel free to do so.

We recognise that looking back on aspects of these experiences may be distressing, so please practice self-care when completing the survey, and know that you can stop at any time – your previous responses will be saved.
