Introductions and context setting

The submission period is between 23rd October 2025 and mid-night 28th November 2025.
The Florence Nightingale Foundation (FNF) is leading a policy and research project exploring how the UK can better retain, develop, and learn from internationally educated nurses and midwives (IENMs).

While political focus has shifted away from international recruitment, tens of thousands of IENMs already work in the UK—yet too many leave the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register prematurely. We want to understand why, and develop practical, evidence-based solutions to:
  • Improve retention and career progression
  • Unlock leadership potential
  • Strengthen global learning and connections
We are inviting initial case study submissions from FNF member organisations to showcase what you are doing to support IENMs with retention and development.

👉 Please note: not all submissions will be featured in the report. However, all submissions will inform the findings and recommendations of our national report, ensuring your input helps shape the wider agenda.
