Learn more about peacefully coexisting with the animals living in and around my home. Humans will always be living with and impacting our wild neighbors, especially as we develop further and further into their natural habitat. Focusing on the coexistence of people and wildlife is essential. Reduce my dependence on single-use plastics by utilizing reusable options, choosing products with less packaging, and buying only what I need. While the use of plastic has benefited modern technology, very little of the single-use plastic is recycled or reused for other purposes. Millions of tons of discarded plastic continue to swirl through the world’s oceans and as plastic takes up to 1,000 years to decompose in landfills, it is an environmental issue that can negatively impact humans and marine and terrestrial wildlife for decades to come. Make informed purchasing decisions about everyday products that contain palm oil and learn more about sustainable practices. The biggest threat to wild animals worldwide is deforestation due to agriculture – especially for palm oil plantations. Palm oil is a crop used in many everyday foods and products such as cookies, crackers, toothpaste, and lotion. It is important to the economy and people in these areas, but this crop can be grown without cutting down the rainforest. You can support the companies who source sustainable palm oil by downloading the PalmOil Scan app from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and buying products that are rated “good” or “excellent”.
