Background
A recent NNPBC membership survey identified three key areas of concern. First, many nurses reported low awareness or understanding of NNPBC’s role and the benefits of membership. Second, members expressed concern that NNPBC’s advocacy and resources may be unevenly distributed across designations. Third, the survey revealed concerns about NNPBC’s educational offerings and professional development support. Members expressed a desire for more accessible and relevant continuing education, calling for improved accessibility to online learning portals, increased content related to career pathways and education opportunities, and ensuring access to education is affordable. The survey feedback suggests NNPBC’s member benefits (like educational programs) are not widely known or utilized, and nurses want greater support for their professional growth (mentorship, skills training, career advancement, etc.) in a way that meets the needs of all nurses across designations and domains of practice.
Purpose
In response to what we heard, the Research, Practice and Education team is launching a series of focus groups to gather more targeted feedback. The focus groups are designed to validate and deepen understanding of these survey findings. Hosted by the Lead, Continuing Education and Professional Development, and the Manager, Practice, Education, and Research, members will be asked a series of questions related to designation-specific experiences and challenges, their perceptions of NNPBC, and currently available resources. They will also be asked about what nurses need or expect from NNPBC in the future. By speaking directly with nurses of each designation (RN, LPN, NP, RPN), we aim to confirm whether these concerns hold true across the profession and to explore the nuances behind them.
The ultimate goal is to generate actionable insights on how NNPBC can improve its visibility, clarify its value to members, and enhance its educational and professional development offerings, thereby better serving nurses in all designations.
