STAFF SENATE INFORMATION - PLEASE READ

  • MEETINGS: The Staff Senate meets regularly from 2:30-4:30p.m., on the second Tuesday of each month, except in January and August, when there are no meetings. Currently, meetings are held on the TEAMS platform.
  • ATTENDANCE: Attendance is expected and recorded. The Staff Senate bylaws allow for 4 absences during the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). After 5 absences, a seat is considered vacant and will be filled as soon as possible.
  • COMMITTEES: Each May, the Credentials & Nominations Committee (C&N) processes the Committee Preference Forms to seat senators on Standing or University-Wide committees for the coming year.
  • VACANT SEATS: Periodically, vacancies occur in various units, for which no applications have been submitted. These seats are then declared 'At Large' and are filled by applicants willing to serve outside their own work unit. If a unit has more applications for open seats, an election is held for those applicants to determine who will be a unit representative.
By placing my signature on this application, I hereby enter my name as a candidate for senator of the University of Louisville Staff Senate and certify that:
* I HAVE BEEN A PERMANENT STAFF MEMBER OF THE UNIVERSITY FOR A PERIOD OF AT LEAST SIX (6) CONSECUTIVE MONTHS.

*I AM NOT A MEMBER OF ANY OTHER UNIVERSITY GOVERNING BODY.

* I HAVE CONSIDERED THE AMOUNT OF TIME I WILL HAVE TO DEDICATE IN ATTENDING STAFF SENATE MEETINGS, COMMITTEE MEETINGS AND IN CARRYING OUT OTHER DUTIES OF MY OFFICE.

*I UNDERSTAND THAT IF I AM NOT ELECTED TO REPRESENT MY OWN WORK UNIT, I HAVE THE OPTION TO BE CONSIDERED AS A CANDIDATE FOR FUTURE AT-LARGE ELECTIONS, SHOULD THEY OCCUR THROUGHOUT THE CURRENT FISCAL YEAR.

The duties of the Parliamentarian are listed below:
  • To assist the Chair in maintaining order and decorum at meetings of the Staff Senate;
  • To interpret and apply Robert's Rules of Order (latest revision) when so requested by either the Chair of the Staff Senate or by a motion duly adopted by the Staff Senate, provided that the Parliamentarian shall be entitled to vote on all motions submitted to the Staff Senate except when such motions appeal from a ruling made by the Chair;
  • To serve as presiding officer of the Staff Senate only for that portion of meetings of the Staff Senate each year during which officers of the Staff Senate are to be elected in accordance with Section 3 of this Article;
  • To keep and maintain an accurate and up-to-date copy of the Constitution and By-Laws and all amendments made thereto and to transmit the same to his or her successor;
  • To serve as Parliamentarian for a term concurrent with the term of the Chair of the Staff Senate; and
  • To serve as an ex-officio non-voting member of the Executive Committee, Credentials and Nominations Committee, and the Policy, Economics and Development Committee
