Medical Forum - GP Survey

Our ailing general practice: we want to hear from you!

The uncertainty surrounding the viability of general practice in Australia should come as no surprise.
Freezes on Medicare rebates, the dearth of GPs in rural and regional areas and the pre-pandemic reliance on international medical graduates which had its recruitment pipeline shut down because of border closures have all taken their toll. Add to that the continual policy rollout (think patient enrolment, pathology agreements) and the general undervaluing of the work done in general practice.
Tell us what you think.
1.What are the two most urgent issues that governments need to address to alleviate the immediate threat to the viability of general practice?
2.If you are considering leaving general practice, what would make you stay?
3.Are you confident that the new Federal Government will make any meaningful changes?
4.What is a key long-term solution for the health system’s current woes?
