Canada Water Act Survey - Pre Engagement Strategies

The Government of Canada is aiming to undertake a review of the Canada Water Act to ensure it remains relevant and effective in addressing current and future water management challenges across the country. A key component of this process is engaging Indigenous communities and organizations to gather insights, knowledge, and perspectives. The Government recognizes the unique and inherent connection that Indigenous Peoples have to water, as well as the importance of respecting Indigenous rights, knowledge systems, and governance practices.

As part of this effort, the Government seeks your input on how to design and implement meaningful engagement strategies that reflect the diverse priorities, concerns, and aspirations of Indigenous communities and organizations. This includes considering how Indigenous Knowledge, cultural values, and Indigenous governance frameworks can be integrated into water management and policy decisions.

Your feedback will play a vital role in shaping a collaborative and inclusive engagement process that respects the principles of Reconciliation and the commitment to advancing government-to-government relationships. By sharing your perspectives, you contribute to the development of a modernized Canada Water Act that acknowledges Indigenous rights and promotes sustainable water stewardship for all.

Thank you for your invaluable contributions to this important initiative.
