The Playbook: The Man's Guide to Breastfeeding is a booklet created specifically for men to learn more about breastfeeding and how they can best support their breastfeeding partner. The project stems from the fact that while a woman’s decision on whether to breastfeed (and how long to do so) is greatly influenced by whether she has her partner’s support, there is little breastfeeding literature directed toward men.

Booklets and applicable shipping are free for organizations and individuals residing in the Central Virginia Health District of Virginia Department of Health (City of Lynchburg as well as Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell counties) while supply lasts. To order, please fill out this form. To place an order for multiple locations, use a new form for each shipping address. Requests will be fulfilled in 2-3 weeks.

Those residing outside CVHD can request a free PDF version to print on their own by emailing Kim Foster at Kimberlee.foster@vdh.virginia.gov.

The Playbook: The Man's Guide to Breastfeeding was created by Central Virginia Health District, with the generous support of Centra and United Way of Central Virginia. Illustrations by local artist Stan Webb. The content was developed and edited through focus group input. Pre/post testing was used to evaluate readers' gains in breastfeeding knowledge, desire to breastfeed future children, and intent to support a breastfeeding partner.
