Emerging Risks Impacting the OEHS Profession |
Introduction
New risks and hazards are continuously emerging. Some come on gradually; some come on suddenly. OEHS professionals can be better prepared to prevent potentially adverse exposures and reduce risk to acceptable levels if emerging risks are anticipated and recognized early on before they impact the workplace. Additionally, knowledge of emerging risks in a particular industry will provide effective inputs into strategic planning and resource allocation in support of safe, compliant, and successful workplace operations.
This survey is an initial exploration of AIHA members' perspectives on emerging risks across industry categories. An ongoing AIHA program to study emerging risks will afford the OEHS profession capability, skill, and knowledge of what's ahead, supporting AIHA’s Communication Content Priorities of Risk Communication, Business Communication, and Training/Education.
