1.LETTER OF CONSENT TO PARTICIPATE

The Hidden Toll: A Comparative Analysis of Secondary Traumatic Stress, Compassion Fatigue, and Burnout in Nursing Faculty and Education Leaders

We are faculty members at Alaska Pacific University (APU) and Charter College conducting an Independent Research Program from November 18th to February 28 2026 .I am requesting your voluntary participation in my research. You may choose to stop your participation at any time without penalty. While I do not expect any significant risks, participants may become uncomfortable with some questions and can opt out at any time. I expect that your participation will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Research indicates that nursing deans, directors, and other nursing leaders are highly susceptible to burnout, a syndrome characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization (or cynicism), and a reduced sense of personal accomplishment. This study will be using the Professional Quality of Life (ProQOL) Satisfaction Survey to answer the research question. To what extent do the levels of secondary traumatic stress, compassion fatigue, and burnout differ between nursing faculty and nursing education leaders (e.g., deans, directors), and how do role-specific factors such as direct student interaction, administrative responsibilities, and institutional support contribute to these variations within university-based and clinical academic settings? This survey will be delivered via QR code to both nursing faculty and nursing deans and director. In this study, that uses an anonymous survey, data will be collected without any direct identifiers to ensure participants' confidentiality. Upon submission, the data will be stored on a secure, password-protected server with limited access to prevent unauthorized viewing. All data collected, especially if highly sensitive and personal, will be handled with extreme care. During the investigation, only the primary investigators will be allowed to view the raw data. To further protect privacy, the original survey data will be destroyed one year after the study is completed to prevent any potential future access or misuse

This project has been reviewed and approved by APU’s Institutional Review Board.
