YWCA USA Scholarship Application for the YWCA Young Women’s Leadership Pre-Institute Workshop

About the Leadership and Capacity Building Institute (LCBI)

This is the third annual YWCA USA Leadership and Capacity Building Institute. The LCBI focuses on providing training and networking opportunities to YWCA local association staff and volunteers. This year we are adding the Young Women’s Leadership Pre-Institute Workshop for young women ages 30 and under on Wednesday, February 3 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The workshop will focus on training specifically for young women. Scholarship recipients will also attend the LCBI which will begin at 5:30 PM on February 3 and end at 4:00 PM on February 5.

Scholarship Details

Ten scholarships, up to $750 each, will be offered to young women who are formally affiliated with the YWCA, as a staff member or active volunteer, to attend the Young Women’s Leadership Pre-Institute Workshop and the LCBI. Scholarships will be awarded to women who are 30 or under at the time of the LCBI. The scholarship process is competitive. Recipients will be selected by a selection committee comprised of YWCA USA staff.

The scholarship includes the registration fee and an award of up to $750 which can be applied toward travel expenses. The local association agrees to commit $250 toward the travel costs. The scholarship can then be used for additional travel expenses up to $750. Any additional travel expenses will be covered by the local association. YWCA USA reserves the right to deny reimbursement for any expense incurred that is not eligible under YWCA USA’s travel expense policy.

Eligibility Requirements for Scholarship Applicants

• 30 years old or younger at the time of the Young Women's Leadership Pre-Institute Workshop.
• Staff member or active volunteer of a local association in good standing.
• The ability to travel to Palm Springs, CA between February 2 through February 5, 2016.
• Submission of a fully completed application, including the essay questions, and the letter of recommendation including a formal endorsement signed by the local association ED/CEO or authorized designee. The formal endorsement must indicate the local association commits to cover $250 of travel expenses and anything in excess of the $750 scholarship award.

Competitive Process for Scholarship Awards
Applications will be accepted until Friday, November 6, 2015. The application can only be submitted online. In addition, the letter of recommendation needs to be submitted via email to lcbi@ywca.org with Young Women’s Scholarship Letter in the subject line. The Selection Committee members will review the applications and notify the grantees by Friday, November 20, 2015. Ten scholarships will be awarded.
