Maine WRRFs PFAS Impacts

Maine Water Environment Association (MeWEA) and North East Biosolids & Residuals Association (NEBRA) are partnering to collect data from Maine water utilities about the impacts of PFAS legislation and regulation on Maine’s biosolids management. Your participation in this survey is greatly appreciated, and your answers are collected for the purpose of tracking and reporting the environmental, economic, and social considerations of biosolids management in Maine. If you have questions about this survey, please contact Emily Cole-Prescott, MeWEA Government Affairs Co-Chair (EPrescott@sacomaine.org) or Janine Burke-Wells, NEBRA’s Executive Director (janine@nebiosolids.org).
.What were your utility’s total biosolids management disposal costs in the indicated years?
.Have you had operational difficulties with biosolids disposal pickups?
.If the answer to Q2 is YES, have these difficulties increased over the past two years?
.Has your utility invested in composting and landfilling and/or land application operations or infrastructure that is no longer viable because of PFAS-related regulations?
.Has your team communicated about the impacts of PFAS on wastewater treatment and biosolids management with your sewer users and your community?
.Has your team made operational changes such as septic receiving, industrial pretreatment practices, dewatering equipment, etc. to manage the impacts of PFAS-related regulations?
.Would you be willing to discuss your utility’s costs in more detail with MeWEA and NEBRA?
.If YES to question 7, please provide your name and telephone number or email address.  Thanks!
