Let's get gig-y with it! Join us for a Beginner Bullfrogging Mini-BOW! This session is designed specifically for women 18+ who want to learn the basics of bullfrogging in a fun, supportive environment. You’ll learn essential safety tips, processing techniques, watch a frog leg cooking demo, and participate in bullfrogging methods of choice (gigging, netting, rod and reel, or by hand!)—no prior experience needed!
Participants are REQUIRED to have a KDWP ID Number and a valid Kansas fishing license. 1-day, 5-day, and annual options are available. [CLICK HERE]
Expect this event to last for six hours. The first half of class will include instruction, methods and ethics, and a processing and cooking demo. Field time will begin at approximately 9PM, with a hard cut off time of 12 midnight. KDWP will provide tools for the field. Please bring your own chair, water, food, bug spray, and a flashlight. If you wish to take home your catch, please bring your own cooler, ice, and freezer bags. Participants will need to bring clothes that can get wet and muddy; muck boots, waders, or other close-toed shoes that can be fully submerged in water; a towel; and a change of clothes for the drive home. There will be a water station to refill water bottles as needed.
NOTE: There are no bathrooms at the marsh. Camping or lodging will not be provided by KDWP for this event and is NOT permitted in the Perry Wildlife Area. Nearby Perry State Park has reservation-based camping and lodging accommodations. More information can be found [HERE]. If staying at the state park, you will need to purchase a park pass. Participants can purchase an Annual State Park Pass for their vehicles ($25) through this link - CLICK HERE - OR can purchase a daily vehicle pass ($5) upon entrance to Perry State Park.
For participant and instructor safety, participants must be able to wade through water, mud, and brush in the August heat. Instructors will provide equipment including gigs, nets, rods and reels, buckets, and drawstring bags for participants' use. Participants can expect to get muddy and buggy, AND go home with a smile, a new outdoor skill, and a snack snatched with their own hands!
We will meet at the parking lot at Kyle Marsh in the Perry Wildlife Area. The marsh is not listed on Apple Maps. Plug the coordinates into your GPS to get the exact location (39.2954875, -95.4514530).
This event is subject to change due to inclement weather. KDWP staff will reach out and notify participants of cancellation and rescheduling opportunities up to the morning of the event if this is the case. Please check the provided e-mail address for any updates or changes in event scheduling.
