Sustainable Verge Program Application 2024

Welcome to the registration form for the City of Stirling’s annual Sustainable Verge program. In 2024 the program will support residents with turfed/hardscaped/bare verges to create native, waterwise verge gardens over autumn and winter by providing the following to each successful applicant:
  • Sustainable Verge Makeover Guide
This guide covers all the requirements, steps, tips and tricks you need to know about before conducting your makeover. We hope this guide gives you confidence in your verge garden design and methods, by answering the most commonly asked questions and including links to further information.
You can download the guide now before deciding to participate (link will open in a new window).
  • One of two voucher options are available, one to assist residents who are removing lawn (skip bin), or a voucher to assist with those greening a bare or sparsely planted verge (mulch).
Mulch voucher (Soils Aint Soils, Balcatta) OR Grass skip bin hire voucher OR two 250kg grass tip passes
Mulch is an essential component of a waterwise garden and has other benefits to plant and soil health. This voucher can be used on the full range of mulches in the Soils Aint Soils Balcatta store and can be put towards a larger order, if required. The voucher can be used for delivery or pickup mulch orders and includes courtesy trailer hire.

A grass skip bin hire voucher can be used by those removing grass. Every effort will be made to accommodate the first preference of those applying. Two grass tip passes is an alternative option for those with ability to transport grass to tip.
Note: if this option chosen, the grass skip bin voucher or grass tip passes will not be an option. Note: If either of these options chosen the mulch voucher will not be an option.
  • 20 waterwise, WA-native plants
Successful applicants will receive twenty waterwise plants in late March/early April which are endemic to Western Australia, to kick off the biodiversity in their new verge garden. All of the plants are verge compliant (under 0.7m height at maturity).
Two packs will be able to be ordered online in early March. Choice will be from the packs available in the City’s Plant Giveaway program. A special-order link will be emailed to successful applicants. Each pack contains ten plants (made up of five species).
