The Trustees and Executive Board have agreed on the following guidelines for
filling Endowment Trustee positions. Please read these guidelines and
upload a statement addressing the guidelines, following the indicated order and format.
Investment Skills
· Extensive and relevant experience on the investment committee of a nonprofit board or foundation, or in guiding foundation or endowment investments.
Please upload a statement that addresses your knowledge of financial markets, investing philosophy, experience in working with advisors and sub-advisors, relevant education or training, and considerations for ensuring ALA’s financial stability for its second 150 years.
Trustee Orientation
· Commitment to working with colleagues on an investment committee (not an autonomous foundation), a role that rewards teamwork, persuasion, and compromise.
· Satisfaction in working as a volunteer. This role does not include any compensation and precludes any conflict of interest, either immediately or in the future.
Trustees must exercise sound judgment and make recommendations that reflect prudence, insight, and care. Teamwork among the Trustees is essential to fulfill their charge. They must be effective communicators and carry out direction from the Executive Board. Please describe your ability to meet the above criteria.
