Survey for TGD Elders in Australia

This survey is for Trans and Gender Diverse Elders (aged 65+) living in Australia. It is part of a project called Kinfolk, which is promoting support for Trans and Gender Diverse (TGD) Elders – in their families and in services.

The project responds to research showing that some TGD Elders are not able to fully express their gender identity with family members. In particular, some TGD Elders report feeling pressure from family members to hide their gender identity at family events, in the community or while with particular family member. Others are totally excluded from interactions with family.

Information from the survey will be used to develop resources to help TGD Elders manage or re-build relationships with their family – in ways that also promote their right to gender expression. The information will also be used to educate aged care service providers about the importance of advocating for TGD Elder’s right to gender expression.

The confidential survey includes 12 Questions and takes between 5 to 20 minutes to complete, depending on how much you write. A brief report summarising the results of the survey will be available on the Alice’s Garage webpage – click the link here.

This project is being coordinated by Alice’s Garage and has been funded by the Department of Health, Canberra. The survey team includes:
·       Dr Catherine Barrett, Director of Alice’s Garage
·       Kathy Mansfield: TGD Elder and survey co-lead
·       Kaye Bradshaw: Collective Impact.

The survey includes questions about the responses of your family to your gender identity. Please provide as little or as much detail as you want.
