Minding Your Mind

WELCOME!
Thank you for your interest in participating in this study on Mental Health Awareness and Attitudes. My name is Anna Kearney. This is an anonymous survey study, please read the following carefully. Thanks!

Purpose of the Study
As part of the requirements for MA Applied Psychology at UCC, I am conducting a research study on awareness, attitudes and help-seeking for mental health concerns among young adults.

What will the study involve?
For this study you will read two short stories about Jan and Lee who have mental health concerns. After reading their stories, you will be asked to answer questions on demographics, mental health awareness and attitudes. This will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Why have you been asked to take part?
You have been asked to take part because this study is concerned with mental health awareness, attitudes and help-seeking among all young adults (18+ years). This is an important period in the life course and I am interested in your opinions regarding mental health concerns at this time.

Do you have to take part?
No. It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part, you are free to withdraw at any time and without giving a reason. You can do this through the  exit link available throughout the survey to the top right of your screen. You can agree to take part in the study now and change your mind later. You will be reminded that you can choose to continue or not continue in the middle and end of the survey. This is your free-choice and deciding to withdraw at any time, or deciding not to take part, will not affect your rights in any way.

Will your participation in the study be kept confidential?
This survey is anonymous and I will not know your personal identity and your responses will not be traceable back to you personally.

What will happen to the information which you give?
Your information will be kept confidential and stored using encryption and password protected files on my laptop. This means that the information will be available only to me and my supervisor for the duration of the study and, on completion of the project, the data will be destroyed after 7 years.

What are the possible disadvantages of taking part?
No harm is anticipated in participating in this study. However, the sensitive nature of the topic of mental health in this survey might bring up some emotional issues for you. You will be provided with a list of mental health support services and information that might be useful for you at the end of the study. If you feel you would like to talk to someone anonymously now you can contact the Samaritans, Free Call 116123 or Text 087 260 90 90.

What if there is a problem?
At the end of the study there is list of support services and information for mental health concerns that you might find useful. Remember, if you feel you would like to talk to someone anonymously now you can contact the Samaritans, Call 116123 or Text 087 260 90 90, this is a completely free and anonymous service.
