2019-2020 Course Leader Interest Survey

Dear Potential Science Olympiad/STEM Enrichment Course Leaders,

Thank you for expressing an interest in volunteering to teach a STEM enrichment course for the D39 Ed Foundation. We hope you will join us this year - We could not run this program without the dedication and commitment of our wonderful parent volunteers!

Please take a few minutes to complete this survey to indicate which courses might be of interest to you, and what days/times you are available. Course leaders are welcome to lead alone or team up with a friend.

The D39 Ed Foundation will still be offering all leaders one free class for one student in their household as a small token of appreciation for their time.

We are very interested in adding new classes this year that reflect your interests!

Anatomy - Students learn about the skeletal, muscular and integumentary body systems and how they interact.

Genetics and Heredity -Students learn how traits are passed from parents to offspring via DNA and chromosomes.

Disease Detectives - Students use investigative skills as they study the spread of disease, injury and disability in populations.

Microbe Mission - Students use microscopes as they explore the world of micro-organisms.

Science of Sports- Students learn how physiology, psychology and biology interact to affect health and athletic performance.

Animal Behavior -Students learn fun facts about how animals interact and evolve to ensure their survival.

Dynamic Planet - Students learn about plate tectonics, glaciation and how long-term climate change affects our planet.

Solar System - Students learn about the sun, as well as the planets, moons, asteroids and comets that orbit it.

Meteorology - Students learn how storms like hurricanes and thunderstorms form, and how to predict the weather.

Green Power - Students learn about sustainability, how our actions today impact the Earth and will affect future generations.

Crime Busters - Students become forensic investigators and solve crimes using evidence like fingerprints and hair/fibers.

Circuit Lab - Students build circuits and learn about electricity, current, voltage and magnetism.

Materials Science - Students learn about the properties of matter as they explore metal alloys, polymers and composites.

Food Chemistry - Students learn about the scientific properties of food ingredients as they conduct experiments.

Potions & Poisons - Students learn about the chemical properties of familiar solutions as they conduct experiments.

Battery Buggy - Students construct a vehicle that uses electrical energy as its sole means of propulsion.

Aerodynamics - Students design, build and test flying devices while learning how lift, drag, weight and thrust impact flight.

Roller Coasters - Students design, build, and test roller coasters while learning about motion and potential energy.

Game On - Students design and build an original computer game using the program Scratch to solve a scientific problem.

Mystery Architecture - Students learn how to creatively use materials to build unique structures that meet a given need.

Towers and Bridges- Students apply civil engineering principles as they design and build structurally efficient structures.

Science of Music - Students build instruments while learning about sound waves, vibrations, resonance and pitch.

Science of Light and Color - Students learn how the electromagnetic spectrum works and how humans see and react to color.
