You are invited to to take part in our research which will investigate motivations for co-morbid drinking and gambling behaviours across age groups in Wales. Before you decide to take part in our study, please take your time to carefully read and understand what is being asked of you. Please take your time to decide whether or not you wish to take part in the study. 

The purpose of the study 
The purpose of the study is to investigate motivations in to alcohol consumption and gambling behaviours. The study will consist of a questionnaire with questions relating to alcohol consumption and gambling behaviours. It is hoped that this research will be beneficial in understanding motivations for alcohol consumption and gambling behaviours, in both, home and public environments. This research could be useful to help people reduce problem drinking and gambling behaviours in the future. 

Why have I been invited to participate in this research? 
You have been invited to take part in this research as a member of the Welsh public. We are specifically interested in finding out about the experiences of as many people as possible with regards to both drinking alcohol and gambling behaviours. 

Do I have to take part? 
It is up to you whether or not you decide to take part in the study. If you agree to participate in the study, you are still free to withdraw from the study at any point up to submitting your data. Submission of your data will also be taken as consent for your data to be used in the research. If you do consent to taking part in the study, then please agree with the statements below.

 
What will happen if I agree to take part?  
The research will require you to answer a series of questions, which will include demographic details relating to gender, age and occupation. The remainder of the questions will be related to alcohol and gambling behaviours and should take you no longer than 40 minutes to complete. Once you have finished, please press the submit button.

What will I have to do?
In order to take part in this study you will be asked to complete a questionnaire. This should take no longer than 40 minutes to complete. The questionnaire is easy to understand and is not timed so do not feel as though you have to rush.  You will be asked some demographic information (for example your age) and some questions related to drinking and gambling.

What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?

Our research will involve questions about drinking alcohol and gambling, which you may find sensitive. Remember that you are free to stop at any time without having to provide a reason why. Information on useful helplines and websites will be provided at the end of the questionnaire, should you feel that you would like further information or advice.

What are the possible benefits of taking part?
The study will not likely benefit you personally, however, the information provided will enable the researchers to understand the motivations for comorbid drinking and gambling behaviours in greater depth.
