G Street Bike Boulevard Survey

The City of Eureka’s Bike Plan 2024, recommended project design concepts and proposed corridors based on existing conditions analysis, community engagement, and coordination with interagency staff. The recommended corridors best establish a network of bicycle facilities that would improve the comfort and safety for, and encourage, bicycling in the City of Eureka.

G Street between 7th and Henderson Streets was one of the proposed bicycle boulevard corridors. Based on the Bike Plan recommendation and awarded funding from Linc Housing, the “G Street Bike Boulevard” has been selected as the next City of Eureka Bicycle Boulevard Project.

Since the recent completion of the C Street Bike Boulevard, the City has received both supportive and critical feedback. Feedback is important and we’d like to hear from the community what design elements are favored and/or opposed when it comes to planning the G Street Bike Boulevard.

The G Street Bike Boulevard Survey is designed to gather input before the design process begins. Bicycle boulevards can have many different elements that can change the cyclists experience and level of traffic stress. The feedback received in this survey, will help inform the design of the G Street Bike Boulevard.

The survey will be open until April 30, 2026. All results will be made public once the survey is closed. Questions can be sent to Project Manager, Brittany Powell at bpowell@eurekaca.gov or (707) 441-4127.
1.Do you live, work, or have other business in the city limits of Eureka? Check all that apply.
2.What is your age range?
3.What is your primary mode of transportation?
4.How often do you ride a bike in Eureka?
5.What level of traffic stress do you envision for residential streets?
6.How often do you intentionally travel on G Street in Eureka, any mode of transportation?
7.If you do travel on G Street regularly, what is the reason?
8.Provide your feedback on the C Street Bike Boulevard. Please include in detail how the changes to C Street have impacted your experience on that street.
Please rate your general opinion of the following design concepts.
9.Median Island
Median Islands -
cause motorists to slow down to a visually narrower roadway. This treatment can also function as median refuge island. Pros: slows traffic and can provide refuge. Cons: can potentially limit some parking.
10.Mini Traffic Circle
Mini Traffic Circles
- are treatments that provide speed management while allowing continued full use of the street from any leg of the intersection. They can be raised or delineated islands. Pros: reduces speed and broadside collisions. Cons: Maintenance and upkeep.
11.
Vehicle Limiting Installations such as Traffic Diverters
- partial closures or full closures across one direction of traffic at an intersection to allow full bicycle passage while restricting vehicular access to one side only. Pros: reduced traffic volume and improved safety for non-motorized users. Cons: potential for diverted traffic to be pushed to adjacent streets.
12.This survey is intended to help provide context to the future G Street Bike Boulevard. Please provide any additional input you have.
