The municipality has put forward a proposal in Assembly Ordinance 2020-66, which includes purchasing America’s Best Value Inn (4360 Spenard Road) to be used for:
  • Transitional housing with supportive services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness and those individuals with special needs to prepare for and obtain permanent housing within 24-months.
  • 24-hour a day, 7 days a week programmatic assistance or services for self-sufficiency skills to its tenants, and may provide services such as, but not limited to, on-site assistance in learning independent living skills (shopping, cooking, financial budgeting, preparing for job interviews, preparing resumes, and similar skills), and referral to off-site education and employment resources (GED completion, job training, computer training, employment services, and the like) to assist the tenants in becoming financially self-sustaining.

The Municipality of Anchorage's proposal is to purchase four buildings for the proposed uses of:

  • America's Best Value Inn - Transitional housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness
  • Golden Lion Hotel - Substance abuse and addiction treatment services for all Anchorage residents
  • Former Alaska Club Midtown @ 630 E. Tudor - Shelter and Day Engagement Center
  • Bean's Cafe- Shelter and Day Engagement Center
