1. Introduction

Are you interested in supporting all NM students and educators, K–5, with math high quality instructional materials aligned to the Math Common Core State Standards paired with on-going professional learning?

The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) continues to support high-quality math  instruction in elementary schools (grades K–5). The PED is excited to invite New Mexico public school districts/charter schools interested in utilizing or expanding their use of the Zearn K–5 instructional materials to apply. This opportunity is open to any public school districts/charter schools. Priority will be given to NM public school districts/charter schools that have not currently adopted and utilize HQIM for core/universal math instruction in Grades K–5.

This initiative is designed to support districts/charter schools to go beyond just downloading curriculum and instead support teachers and leaders adopting and implementing a full, high quality math curriculum. Support includes a one-year school license including access to full online curriculum plus online professional learning modules and cost share to offset materials (print student workbooks) costs. The PED can support a maximum of 50 schools; space is limited.

Each participating school is provided:
  • Cost share to offset materials (print student workbooks) costs
  • One year school license including access to full online curriculum + online professional learning modules
PED Financial Commitment District/School/Charter School Financial Commitment
1. Purchase a one year school-site license for
July 2021–June 2022. License is up to $5,000/school-site includes:

  • Zearn’s curriculum license includes access to: a) All of the lessons, assignments and intervention and acceleration materials, detailed student and school reports, additional foundational content, rostering, administrative, assessments, minimal PD and b) Access to the mid-school materials they are piloting that are not widely available until 2022 or 2023.
  • Zearn’s professional learning license includes access to the Curriculum Study PL online modules that can be used by individual teachers on demand or as a group. Designed to build teachers pedagogical content knowledge.
2. Purchase of up to $1,500 in student workbooks
Cost of the remaining student workbooks at $20 per student, any printing costs, or stipends for teachers participating in PL outside work hours                                                       
Please note: The PED will purchase the licenses and workbooks up to the amounts listed above. The PED will ship workbooks to the district/charter school.
To participate, districts and schools develop an implementation plan that ensures:
  • Each educator participating is implementing the Zearn K–5 full curriculum
  • Whole school participation – 100% of students and educators at each school site
  • Educators are fully engaged in the Curriculum Study PL online modules
Application Details

Criteria:
  • Priority will be given to NM public school districts/charter schools that have not currently adopted and utilize HQIM for core/universal math instruction in Grades K–5.
  • Schools must agree to implement Zearn K–5 for one year as core curriculum in Grades K–5
  • Schools must have a plan for ensuring implementing educators fully engage in the Curriculum Study PL online modules
  • Competitive preference for school teams with detailed implementation plan of curriculum and on-going professional learning with the online modules
Expectations:

District:
This one-year initiative includes the following program expectations:

  • Full adoption of Zearn K–5 math curriculum in grades K–5
  • 100% of teachers providing math instruction grades K–5 participating
  • All participating math teachers fully engage in all PL online modules
  • School/district/charter school resources identified to cover costs (i.e. consumable workbooks/printing costs, stipends for teachers participating in PL outside work hours)

The PED will provide: 
  • Each participating school-site license for full curriculum and online PL modules
  • Student workbooks (up to $1,500) per school site
Timeline:
  • May 3: Launch applications
  • May 14: Request for Application (RFA) closes
  • May 19: Make selections of schools and confirming shipping information
  • May 24: Orders are finalized
