All It Takes Project: Youth Reference Group Applications 2026

About the FIPV Youth Reference Group

*Important
Please note this is NOT a lived experience reference group. You do not need to have lived experience of family and intimate partner violence (FIPV) to join, however knowledge and understanding of the drivers of FIPV are useful.

About All It Takes (AIT) and YACWA:
AIT is a youth peer project aiming to educate other young people on family and intimate partner (FIPV) violence primary prevention. It is run by the Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia (YACWA) who are the peak body for young people in WA.

What the Youth Reference Group (YRG) involves:
As part of the YRG, you will meet every 1-2 months and the meetings will run for two and a half hours. In these sessions, the group will provide feedback on the project's content and workshops and help inform our work!

Your commitment:
As a member of the YRG, you will need to be able to commit to attending a meeting every 1-2 months, ideally for a year minimum.

The meetings will be held on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings that best suits the group from 5pm to 7:30pm in Inner City Perth (location TBA closer to the date of each meeting), but online access is provided for those who cannot attend in person.

The first three meeting dates are as follows:
Jan 22nd
Feb 26th
April 2nd

There may be opportunities to do additional small pieces of work outside the meetings, which will be paid.

We will aim to be as flexible as possible, giving you options to attend in person or participate online, and we will also be mindful of busy periods in your life, such as exams or cultural holidays.

Content:
YACWA’s new FIPV prevention project is a trial program designed to reduce and stop harmful beliefs and gender stereotypes that can lead to violence in close relationships (like with a partner, parent, carer, or support worker).

Family and intimate partner violence (also called family and domestic violence) includes any behaviour that is violent, threatening, controlling, or meant to make someone or their family feel scared and unsafe.

This project uses a peer-based model, where young people are employed to create and run workshops and content that are relatable and youth-friendly.

Our team will also work with youth workers and other professionals to address the attitudes, behaviours, and social beliefs that drive gendered violence and contribute to harm.

Throughout the project we will be covering these following topics and more unspecified:

  • Improved awareness and understanding of the attitudes, behaviours and social conditions that drive violence against women
  • Acceptance of violence (e.g. Footy punch-ups)
  • Negotiation skills
  • Masculinity
  • Gender roles
  • Building healthy relationships
  • Communication
  • Boundaries
  • Managing emotions
  • Consent
  • Responding to challenging behaviours
  • Challenging social norms
  • Bystander approaches
  • Values and attitudes
  • Working towards equality in relationships
  • Accessing support
Content warning:
Due to the topic of focus (FIPV and violence against women) the material discussed throughout the course of membership may contain potentially triggering content, particularly for trauma survivors or those who have witnessed or directly received violence, assault or harassment. Whilst YRG members will be supported throughout their time in the group by YACWA staff, applicants should consider if this role is suitable for them and their mental health and wellbeing.

What will you receive as part of the YRG?
  • As a member of our YRG, you will receive a $100 gift voucher per meeting that you attend. If you do any additional work, then we will reimburse you at a casual hourly rate.
  • You have the opportunity to inform our work and have your say on what's important/needed.
  • Food (typically pizza) and soft drinks will be provided, at the in person meeting.
