Financing the Agri-Energy Nexus: Breaking Institutional Silos, Kigali Convention Center, AD 11 Room - Wednesday 28th October, 13:30h

Agriculture has become one of the largest productive-use markets for distributed renewable energy, yet financing remains fragmented. Many institutions support both agriculture and energy, but through separate teams, mandates, and investment strategies, leaving businesses operating across both sectors struggling to fit traditional investment criteria.

This session takes investors inside a live investment committee, presenting three real business cases: a solar irrigation company expanding into embedded input finance, an agricultural company investing in captive renewable energy, and a cold storage company combining renewable energy with aggregation and market access for smallholder farmers. Investors will discuss how each opportunity would be evaluated within their own organizations, surfacing why agriculture and energy continue to be financed separately, where in the value chain capital struggles to reach, and what changes in process, evidence, and partnership could unlock more capital into the segment
