Prince Edward County Holidays Act Survey

In early 2020, there was interest from the Prince Edward business community to explore an alternative to the current by-laws; By-law No. 2237-2008 and 2615-2010 under the Retail Business Holidays Act, that would permit retail businesses in Prince Edward County to choose which statutory holidays they wish to be open.

The Retail Business Holidays Act is provincial legislation that prohibits the opening of retail businesses on statutory holidays in Ontario. The legislation is administered by the Ministry of Consumer Services.

Local municipalities or regions are given the authority under the legislation to pass By-laws that would exempt businesses from the requirement to be closed on statutory holidays.

Council is seeking public input on this initiative by way of an online survey, and public meeting on March 10th, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. to provide further opportunity for input and comment.
