Introduction of the 5th Lancang-Mekong Business Forum on July 3-5, 2023

Mekong Institute (MI) is hosting the 5th Lancang Mekong Business Forum on the theme of “Promoting Agribusiness and Investment in Processed Food Sector” on July 3-6, 2023 in Nanning and Pingxiang, P.R.China.

(Note: if the targeted number of seats is not fulfilled by May 8, the deadline may be extended to May 24, 2023) 

The forum contains five sub-activities below (Beijing time):
1) Business Seminar (Hybrid), July 3, 2023 at 08:30-12:00, Nanning, 100 seats;
2) 1:1 Business Matching (Onsite), July 3, 2023 at 13:00-17:30, Nanning, 40 meeting tables, 9 timeslots, 20 mins/meeting; 
3) Exhibition (Onsite), July 3, 2023, all day (outside of the conference hall), Nanning;  
4) Structured Learning Visit - visit food processing companies and trade, logistics and industrial parks in Nanning and Pingxiang, China border town to Vietnam, July 4-5, 2023 (onsite, 2-day), around 50 seats.
5) 1:1 Business Matching (Virtual via MI Application), July 7-31, 2023 

The forum will provide a platform to discuss the challenges and opportunities of agribusiness and processed food sector in Lancang-Mekong (LM) countries, showcase innovative agro-food products and facilitate business matching between the Chinese companies and foreign manufacturers, suppliers, traders and investors from LM region and beyond. The forum will also arrange a field visit to Nanning and Pingxiang to explore the food process technologies, trade and investment opportunities and incentives, services and facilities offered by the China government. 

Target participants:

1) 25 non-Chinese companies from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, or their representatives based in these countries and/or nearby countries (traders/investors/service providers.
MI will cover the cost of round-trip economic class of international air tickets, up to USD 600 per ticket, airport transfer in P.R.China, local transport during SLV on Jul 4-5, 4-night accommodation in Nanning and Pingxiang on July 2-5, and some days of meals for the group of 25 participants).

2) 45 Chinese companies based in Guangxi or other provinces of P.R.China (e.g. suppliers/producers/traders/service providers). 
About 15 seats will be open for this group to attend the SLV in Nanning and Pingxiang. MI will provide lunch on July 3, local transport and 2-day lunch on July 4-5 during the field visits.

3) 20 other stakeholders: agro-food processing development relevant chamber of commerce, business associations, IGO and government agencies based in Nanning and other cities of P.R.China and beyond.

The Business Forum is part of a long-term project being implemented by MI since 2018 in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand and supported by the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund (LMCSF) of P. R. China. For the forum in Nanning, P.R.China, MI is collaborating with the local partners (to be confirmed) as the local host. The LM Business Forum in Nanning is the fifth event of six such forums planned for each Lancang-Mekong country during 2018-2024 to promote agribusiness and the processed food sector in the Lancang-Mekong region.
