Feedback on Championship Formats for Senior & Masters Women Curling

Curling Alberta is seeking feedback from Senior Women and Masters Women teams regarding potential championship formats for future seasons.

Over the past three seasons:
  • Masters Women has averaged 8 teams, with a decrease this past season likely influenced by host location.
  • Senior Women has averaged 11 teams.
We are aware there are pros and cons associated with various formats, including triple knockout, pool play, and round robin. Based on previous survey feedback, round robin may be the preferred format, as it provides guaranteed games and a consistent competitive experience.

However, to make a round robin and pool play format feasible - considering event length, number of games, and our goal of no more than two games per day per team - we may need to reintroduce (or maintain) a qualifier event to manage the number of teams advancing to provincials.

With this in mind, we are looking to understand:
  • Whether teams support the use of a qualifier to guarantee a manageable field size
  • Whether teams prefer an open championship, understanding that this may require a triple knockout format
  • Preferred championship formats for each category
Your feedback will help guide decisions for future seasons.
1.For the Senior Women Provincial Championship, do you support hosting a qualifier to determine teams advancing to provincials?
2.If scheduling and number of teams allow, which championship format do you prefer for Senior Women?
3.For the Masters Women Provincial Championship, do you support hosting a qualifier to determine teams advancing to provincials?
4.If scheduling and number of teams allow, which championship format do you prefer for Masters Women?
5.Please provide any additional feedback or suggestions regarding the championship formats for future seasons.
