Information Related to the Research Study

Title of the study
Assessing the Wireless Infrastructure Needs of the Academic Research Community

Description of the Study and Your Part in It

You are invited to participate in a research study conducted by Dr. James Martin as a part of the NSF-funded SciWiNet project. The purpose of this research is to understand the requirements and needs the academic research community have for wireless infrastructure and technology.

The researchers will be happy to answer any questions for you. Your participation will involve only completing a brief online survey.

The amount of time of your participation will be approximately 10 minutes or less.

Risks and Discomforts

There is a minor risk that your assigned name may become connected to your responses. To minimize this risk, your responses will be stored on a secure password protected computer in an access restricted lab and associated with a random id.

Possible Benefits

The academic community will potentially benefit from the survey if it results in the successful development and deployment of SciWiNet.

Incentives

As an incentive for your participation, we will offer a limited number of participants a free month of service on SciWiNet. You would need to acquire your own device. Other restrictions apply (refer to http://sciwinet.org/trialSummary.html for details). While the exact number of participants that can be supported for the free month of service depends on usage, we anticipate that at least 50 particpants can be supported.

Protection of Privacy and Confidentiality

The surveys will be stored on a secure password protected computer for at least three years. We will do everything we can to protect your privacy and confidentiality. We will not tell anybody outside of the research team that you were in this study or what information we collected about you in particular. Your identity will not be revealed in any publication that might result from this study.
Choosing to Be in the Study

You do not have to be in this study. You may choose not to take part and you may choose to stop taking part at any time. You will not be punished in any way if you decide not to be in the study or to stop taking part in the study.

Participant Inclusion

• You must be employed by a US University or College or National Lab
• Your job must involve academic research that uses or involves wireless technology. For example, if you are a researcher in health sciences and your research involves wireless medical devices, we want your input!!!
