The Effects of Inclusive Access on Institutional OER Programs

Thank you for agreeing to complete this initial interest survey. I am conducting this study to examine how academic library personnel who oversee their library’s OER initiatives perceive the impact of inclusive access or equity access programs on those OER efforts.

Completion of this survey may result in selection for participation in individual interviews with the researcher.

This research has been approved with limited review by the Texas Tech University Institutional Review Board (IRB), IRB2025-993.
What is this research studying?

This study will examine how academic library personnel who oversee their library’s OER initiatives perceive the impact of inclusive access or equity access programs on those OER efforts.

What will I do if I participate?

Prior to being selected to participate, you were asked to complete an eight-question survey to determine eligibility to participate in this study. You will be asked to provide your name, institutional affiliation, and institutional email. This information will be used to verify eligibility to be interviewed and to contact selected participants. The survey will take approximately 10-20 minutes to complete. Your participation is completely voluntary, and you can stop at any point in the study. Your name and institutional email address will be destroyed at the conclusion of the study.

If selected for the study based on the survey, you will be asked to participate in a virtual interview via Zoom that will take approximately 90 minutes. Your participation is completely voluntary, and you can stop at any point in the study. Information gathered during the interview will be kept confidential. If you agree to participate, the interview will have audio and video recorded to capture data. You will be assigned a pseudonym at the time of data transcription, and no individually identifiable information about yourself will be shared with others.

What are the benefits of participating in this research?

The benefits of this research include gaining a deeper understanding of the relationship between OER and inclusive access programs, and how academic library personnel make sense of these two seemingly opposing cost-saving initiatives.

What are the risks of participating in this research?

There are no anticipated risks for your participation in this research.

I appreciate your time and effort with this research study.

Will I receive an incentive or compensation?

No, you will not receive an incentive or compensation for participation in this study.

Can I quit if I become uncomfortable?

Yes, absolutely. Sabrina Davis and Texas Tech University’s Institutional Review Board have reviewed this research project and think you can participate comfortably. However, you can skip parts of the research you are not comfortable with and stop at any time for any reason. You will keep all the benefits of participating even if you stop. Participating is your choice. Your decision to participate or stop participating will not impact your relationship with Texas Tech University.

How long will participation take?

We are asking for 10-20 minutes of your time to complete the survey and 90 minutes of your time to complete the interview.

How are you protecting privacy?

Your name will not be linked to any material in reports, publications or presentations. The only researcher who will have access to the raw data collected from the recruitment survey and the interviews is Sabrina Davis. All related documentation will be stored on a password protected computer.

What will happen to my data?

To protect your confidentiality, identifiers will be removed from the identifiable private information. Your information collected as part of this research, even when identifiers are removed, could be used for future research studies by the researcher or distributed to another investigator for future research studies without additional informed consent from you or your legally authorized representative.
