New York's nutrition program for older adults - the nation's largest- provides over 20 million meals annually to more than 245,000 older adults, supporting physical health and well-being while combatting social isolation. The New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) administers the program, utilizing the expertise of Registered Dietitians (RD's), combining funding from federal, state, and local government sources into a single, comprehensive, statewide nutrition program.
Tompkins County Office for the Aging is tasked with providing these nutrition services for our county and these include Congregate/Community and Home Delivered meals, nutrition education and counseling, as well as referrals to additional supports and benefit programs. Foodnet Meals on Wheels is our local contractor and partner to provide these services.
To ensure we are good stewards of this funding and to identify eligible people in underserved areas who may need it most, the Tompkins County Office for the Aging is seeking input from older adults and/or their caregivers who are currently not receiving this service, on your cultural and special dietary needs and preferences as well as interest in using the Senior Nutrition Home Delivered Meal Program.
This survey is phase 2 in a multistep assessment. The first phase included a short survey designed to understand the community's awareness of our service provider, Foodnet Meals on Wheels. Findings from this assessment will be used to plan and implement meaningful program improvements.
