Proposed Speed Cushions on City Streets - Survey Extended to Feb. 23

The City of Bellevue Transportation Department is pursuing a grant to support the installation of speed cushions on nine 25 mph streets. The speed cushions are intended to address community’s concerns about speeding vehicles and are located on streets where vehicle speeds have been measured at 10 mph or more above the speed limit. Speed cushions are two or more raised and rounded areas of pavement placed across a road. They have gaps to allow emergency vehicles and people bicycling to pass through more quickly without needing to drive over the cushions. In other areas of Bellevue, speed cushions have decreased the average driving speed by up to 5 mph.

If the grant is awarded, locations of cushions will be finalized and the project team will notify homeowners who are next to a proposed speed cushion. If the city receives the grant, installation will likely occur in 2027.
