COPD and Panic Attack Survey

Do you have COPD and experience panic attacks? If so, you may be eligible to participate in a survey to help researchers learn more about panic attacks in COPD. Researchers at Wake Forest University are interested in the feasibility of a smartphone application to prevent panic attacks before they occur in patients with COPD.

For the purposes of this survey:

A panic attack is defined as a sudden rush of fear or discomfort, peaking within 10 minutes, accompanied by at least 4 of the following symptoms:
  • Rapid or pounding heartbeat
  • Chest pain or discomfort
  • Chills or hot flushes
  • Sweating
  • Nausea
  • Fear of losing control or going crazy
  • Trembling or shaking
  • Dizziness or faintness
  • Breathlessness
  • Feelings of unreality
  • Fear of dying
  • Feeling of choking
  • Numbness or tingling
Episodes like panic attacks but with fewer than 4 of the listed symptoms above are called limited symptom attacks.

Your participation in this survey will help researchers to understand the prevalence of panic attacks, use of wearable devices, and receptiveness to a smartphone application intervention for panic attacks in patients with COPD.
