Opioid Education in Optometry Programs

Background

The opioid abuse crisis in America makes headlines every day and new efforts are underway to combat it. ASCO (and the AOA) would like to know what our schools and colleges teach about opioids so that we can better describe the type and duration of education optometry students receive about opioids. Could you please take a few minutes to complete this short survey so that we might gather this important information. Your participation is greatly appreciated.
1.Please indicate which college/university you represent:
2.Do you discuss the subject of opioids in your optometric curriculum? If yes, continue with the next question; if no, skip to question 8.
3.During what year is opioid education covered?
4.How many hours specifically pertaining to opioids are covered in your curriculum?
5.Is the topic embedded in a course?
6.If the topic is embedded within a course, could you tell us the name of the course?
7.Please check all of the items covered through your program:
8.If the topic of opiods is not currently in your curriculum, do you plan to add it in the near future? [Skip this question if your curriculum includes education on opioids.]
9.Do you offer any continuing education courses (for practicing ODs, graduate students, or residents) on the topic of opioids?
10.Do you have a faculty member(s) with knowledge/expertise in opioid education that ASCO might reach out to for future efforts involving this topic? If so, please share their name and e-mail.
