Nurse Inventor Research Study

Information for Participants

Purpose. This survey asks US registered nurses about patent filing, ownership of their inventions, and how they learned about the patent process. You are invited because you are a registered nurse or advanced practice registered nurse who has invented, or had an idea for, a device, product, software, or method, whether or not you filed a patent.

Who is conducting the study. Beth A. Brooks, PhD, RN, FACHE, Dan Weberg, PhD, MHI, RN, FAAN and Omid Razmpour, PhD, MBA, RN from Nurse Capital.

What is involved. The survey takes about 5 minutes. Not every question applies to everyone, so the number of questions you see depends on your answers. One section asks what you would do in a hypothetical situation, not what you have done.

Voluntary participation. Taking part is your choice. You may skip any question and stop at any time before submitting.

Anonymity. The survey does not ask for your name, employer, or any patent or application number, and your IP address is not recorded. Because responses cannot be identified, a response cannot be withdrawn once submitted.

Risks and benefits. The risks are minimal. Some questions ask about ownership of inventions and agreements with employers, which some people may find sensitive. There is no direct benefit to you and no payment for taking part.

How the data are kept. Responses are stored on the survey platform under password protection and later moved to encrypted storage available only to the research team. Results are reported only in aggregate, and no group small enough to identify an individual will be published.

Questions. Contact the research team at info@nursecapital.net. For questions about your rights as a research participant, contact RapidIRB at support@rapidirb.com (IRB00014585). This study was determined to be exempt from full review.
