Lown Institute Right Care Vignette Competition

The Right Care Vignette Competition highlights cases of everyday overuse - commonly performed medical interventions that seem acceptable, but can cause harm. Sharing clinicians’ stories of the negative consequences of overuse can be a powerful counterbalance to the ‘more is better’ culture in healthcare and can help others recognize and minimize overuse.

* The first author of the vignette should be a trainee.

Maximum word count is 800 words (excluding references). Submissions should include a clinical vignette, which provides an engaging story with pertinent clinical and historical findings. Also, vignettes must include a succinct summary of the clinical issues with the heading, “Teachable Moment” describing the evidence for medical overuse and suggesting an alternative approach going forward. The manuscript should be given a title that reflects the specific focus. You may include up to five references.
