Dementia, Cancer and Us All is a new project from Innovations in Dementia, funded by Macmillan Cancer Support.
A cancer diagnosis and treatment can be challenging for anyone. Even the thought of having cancer can be a real worry for people.
When dementia is part of the picture too, things can become even more complex. Information can be difficult to take in, appointments may feel confusing or overwhelming, and it is not always easy for people to express their wishes or make their voices heard.
We also know that healthcare professionals want to provide the best possible support, but they may not always have the knowledge, resources, or confidence to meet the specific needs of people affected by both dementia and cancer.
Rather than making assumptions, we want to learn directly from the people who know these experiences best: those who have lived through them.
By sharing your experiences, you can help us better understand what works well, what could be improved, and what changes are needed to make cancer care more accessible, supportive, and person-centred for people living with dementia.
We'd also like to know if you'd like to be involved in the project going forwards.
Your experiences and insights are extremely valuable and will help shape future work to improve support for people affected by dementia and cancer.
