Have Your Say - Bushman's Dam Flood Repair Project

Parkes Shire Council is seeking community feedback on proposed works at Bushman’s Dam as part of the Community Asset Program 2024 - Bushman’s Dam Flood Repair Project.

Following the Natural Disaster in November 2022, which resulted in widespread flooding and damage across the Shire, Council submitted funding applications for impacted community assets. Bushman’s Dam was successfully approved for funding of approximately $670,000 to undertake restoration works. The project will primarily involve cleaning of the dam, retaining wall repairs and footpath reinstatement.

The project aims to deliver long-lasting improvements that will better manage future rain events, addressing flooding issues the dam has previously been unable to accommodate. The proposed works will also enhance the overall appearance, safety and functionality of the area for the community.

As part of the consultation process, Council is inviting feedback on the following proposed elements:
  • Removal of the island
  • Removal of the fence around the waterway
  • Installation of a fence to close off the splash park area
  • Construction of a shared footpath connecting to the splash park
  • Installation of a new large ornamental fountain
  • Large-scale planting of new native vegetation
  • Addition of native and natural gardens
Council acknowledges that Bushman’s Dam holds special significance for many residents and that some of the proposed changes may be of particular interest or concern to the community.
Council recognises this is a sensitive matter and is committed to listening to community views to help strike the right balance between preserving local identity and delivering high-quality, resilient infrastructure for the future.

Residents and business owners are encouraged to participate in the consultation by completing this survey.
