Additional Hospital Services for Nanaimo

The more than 450,000 residents of Central and North Vancouver Island, as well as smaller islands that depend on Island Health service, are served by several community hospitals but only one tertiary hospital (Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH)), which has struggled to keep up to the demands of an increasing population with complex care needs. For instance, it has only a couple of the 19 tertiary programs and only about 1.9 beds per 1,000 residents, compared to the National standard of 2.5. With plans to increase infrastructure and services in the near future, we are seeking input about if Vancouver Island residents see a need for additional hospital services.

Help us to shape the plans to improve health care for Vancouver Island residents and the community as a whole.
