GP Access Survey

Before Covid-19, patients seen their GP either face to face or by a telephone consultation. Government guidelines were introduced to help stop the spread of coronavirus. The practice adapted to a new way of working.
  • Patients guidance on how to access the GP services.
  • Telephone triaged remotely and Video consultations.
  • Use of eConsult online.
  • Face to face consultations comply with infection prevention and control guidance.
  • Coordinating care to a single consultation where possible.
  • Designated areas in the surgery for staff & patients.
  • Encouraging online services to order medication to reduce need for paper prescriptions
How we bring our patients with us on the new journey is going to take explaining, understanding and time. With Covid we accepted that we could be met with some resistance due to the uncertainty. Now a year into the pandemic, it has shown us how changes can be made.
GP appointments continues to increase and Covid has identified that not everything is diagnosed in an face to face appointment and using other methods such as video or telephone consultations allowing patients a response within 24 hours.  Previous to Covid patients on average waited up to 2-3 weeks to see their GP.

It will be a steep learning curve and our plans will be under constant review. During covid patients were under the illusion that strict NHS guidelines meant that the GP Practice were not busy or seeing patients face to face. The demand for appointments increased during the pandemic.
