Thursday November 16th, 2023 will be the YMCA’s 5th-8th Grade Youth and Government Day in Providence. The conference is free to all delegates from schools with an adult who are committed to completing the easily attainable Civic Health Champion certification this school year, and we are happy to assist. Otherwise, the cost is $25 per student, though there is ample financial aid. The cost covers lunch at the conference, materials, and a shirt.
Beginning at 9:30 am at the Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel, Students will be welcomed at the Opening Assembly and then guided in breakout groups YMCA staff as they spend the morning learning to write a bill, then how to present it. In the afternoon they will become legislators and debate the bills they have just written, with lunch provided as well as a tour of the State Capitol.
