Section 1: Background Information

This survey is designed to gather your input to inform how we develop a "Blue Marble Evaluators" global community and education opportunities (articles, webinars, training etc.) plus set priorities for what content is most important to you.

Over the past several years, the challenge of evaluating human response to global systems change has received growing interest from a wide range of people including funders, decision-makers, financial managers, planners and practitioners. "Blue Marble" evaluation is being developed in response to this demand and urgent need (more information can be found here). Michael Quinn Patton began using the term Blue Marble Evaluation (BME) during the International Year of Evaluation (2015). The focus that year was on building national evaluation capacity to address SDGs It struck him that a great many global issues transcend national borders, agency boundaries, and SDG silos. "Blue Marble Evaluation" (BME) addresses global systems change and transformation.  To date, the only published article on BME was a contribution to a special issue of the Canadian Program Evaluation Journal focused on postcolonial evaluation. A copy of that article can be found here.

You are being sent this survey because you have expressed interest in learning more about this work. By completing this survey, you will be welcomed into a global community who are contributing to the development of this field, and are willing to learn together how to better design, implement and evaluate response to global systems change.

If you join the global network, you will be informed of events such as webinars and training opportunities, invited to submit questions as well as case examples, and invited to participate in many different types of activities. Your response to this survey will shape a more complete understanding of the community so we can more effectively collaborate, systematically build a network and support its continued development.  We recognize not all people will be active at the same level and therefore offer different levels of participation encouraging you to select the level that is most appropriate for you. Your input is also critical for how a website can be developed to support the global network and your potential role in the website development process.

While participation in the survey is voluntary, your input is critical as it will serve to advance the next step in creating the Blue Marble community. We expect the survey to take 10-15 minutes to complete. All information will be kept private and not shared outside of the Blue Marble Evaluators Network.

If you have any questions or concerns about this survey, please contact Glenn Page, at gpage@sustainametrix.com.
