genetics (e.g warrior gene, adhd or autism)

effective

they successfully rehabilitate prisoners

they give prisoners education and training so the are less likely to turn to illegal sources of income

they remove dangerous people from society

they are an effective deterant to crime

they bring justice to victims

i think prisons are not effective

they cause prisoners to commit self harm and/ or suicide

they don't stop prisoners from re-offending

they promote violence and drug dealing

it is to expensive and costs the taxpayers money

i believe the prisons in Scotland are effective
