CHAMBERS’ EXCELLENCE IN LITURGICAL ARTS AWARD NOMINATION FORM
This award shall be called the "Chambers' Excellence in Liturgical Arts Award.”
Meyer Chambers, a gifted liturgical artist, born in 1955 in New Orleans, he earned degrees from Xavier University and the Catholic University of America. Since 1987, he has served the Archdiocese of Boston as a music director at St. Sebastian’s School, St. Katharine Drexel Parish, and the Black Catholic Choir. He also spent over 20 years as a Boston College campus minister.
Nationally, Meyer contributed to the second edition of Lead Me, Guide Me: The African American Catholic Hymnal, composed music for a Mass, and has played a key role in various liturgical music initiatives.
Award Criteria
This award shall be presented to a practicing Black Catholic:
- Has made outstanding contributions to the liturgical arts in the Black Catholic community.
- Has demonstrated imagination in the service of others in his/her practice of liturgical arts; and
- Has faithfully served with distinction as a mentor, teacher, or minister to others in the Black Catholic community.
For all purposes relating to this award, the “liturgical arts” shall include music, dance, drawing, painting, calligraphy, floral design, architecture, sculpture, homiletics, textile arts, acoustical arts, cinematic arts, digital arts, applied arts, decorative arts, visual arts, and any other form of art that embodies and enhances Black Catholic worship and prayer.
